Windowsill of Joy – 18 April

Fascinating country with many islands. The book (Croatia – A history from the middle ages to the present day) was well written, but the history of this country so very sad. Amazing that they ever achieved independence and a lesson that things can improve even after centuries of war and oppression. Diocletians palace in Split, a Roman architectural site still being lived in, washing hung out, meals being cooked. What a great place to live surrounded by history I thought, then overheard, ‘what a shame, cant they get a nice condo…”

Interesting selection of oils, pine oil as used in the New Zealand Kurol. And the more usual lavender, rosemary, sage and liquorice.

Bought a couple of crayons on the beautiful green island of Korcula and then went back to buy more as they were so pleasant to use and had a wonderful smell. Met the owner in her shop – she had been given a government grant to manufacture and sell thees unique Croatian designed crayons.
